Senior citizens rock! And no I am not referring to a rocking chair. Johnny Bach, 85 years of age is just one of those who fit this description. In an article entitled, Hooping It Up Beyond the Pros, in the April 2010 AARP Bulletin, we see why seniors make a difference. It was written by Bob Cohn.
With more than 50 years of teaching basketball he knows the game quite well. After all, he helped coach NBA superstar Michael Jordan while he was with the Chicago Bulls.
And now he can add high school basketball coach on his list of accomplishments. This past year he completed his first year as a volunteer basketball coach at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago. His work is primarily working with the sophomore team doing various drills.
According to Bach, “I’ve been in basketball long enough to feel secure about what I say and what I believe, so they can see who I really am”.
What a difference he is sure to make and has already made in the lives of these young students.
And because of what he is doing, I am elated to select Johnny Bach as today’s American Hero.
