Amy’s Spinach Rice Crust Pizza has a rich tomato sauce covered in spinach and then topped with a vegan non-dairy cheese. The vegan cheese that it is topped with is not that generous. It is more scattered. If I was able to get it to melt properly it probably would have spread out more like in the photo. The spinach was much more generous in the real pizza, than the photo. I think that is a plus. The spinach is chopped really small and scattered to cover the pizza.. I like that they did that instead of leaving it in large pieces
I didn’t get the cheese to melt as much as the photo on the box shows. To melt it you are suppose to put it under the broiler for 30 second – 1 minute after it is done baking for the 11 – 13 minutes recommended. That was not enough to melt it the way it shows at least not in my oven. I used a toaster oven. The box does not give directions for a toaster oven, just a conventional oven, but my toaster over is made to fit at frozen pizzas and it cooks just fine in it.
You can prepare Amy’s Spinach Rice Crust Pizza crispy or with a softer crust depending on the directions you follow on the back of the box. I have tried it both ways; most recently I tried it with a softer crust and I think I enjoyed it more with the softer crust. Either way you prepare it the pizza is full of flavor and the rice crust is light. It is covered with the perfect amount of tomato sauce and not too much that it over powers the pizza. The only downfall I feel is the cheese is not too generous, but it is labeled as a spinach pizza and not necessarily a cheese pizza. So can I really complain, as the spinach was quite generous.
If you are a vegan and/or gluten-free make sure you check the packaging. Amy’s labels their products but at the same time make all their similar products look the similar in packaging. They have a non-vegan spinach pizza that packaging wise looks almost identical to the vegan one. Look for the green bar at the top that states Gluten-free and Non-dairy. Also, check the back where the ingredients are, it will say vegan.
I really enjoy Amy’s Spinach Rice Crust Pizza. I think it is a great option for those with celiac or those just trying to avoid gluten. I also think it is great for vegans. It is full of flavor and easy to make. I have purchased it a couple ties and do plan to purchase it again.
