If you are looking for a post card perfect holiday event in Mobile, Alabama that would make even Currier and Ives proud, look no further than the “Bragg-Mitchell Mansion’s Southern Christmas Open House.”
About a Southern Christmas
On December 5th, 2010 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm the “Bragg – Mitchell Mansion” will offer visitors the quintessential southern Antebellum Christmas experience through it’s’ “A Southern Christmas” annual open house and fund raiser.
The day’s program will include a tour of the 13,00 square foot circa 1855 Greek Revival mansion, tea and treats served in the antique tea room, Christmas shopping in the on-site gift shop, visits with Santa, Christmas storytelling time for the children, and horse drawn sleigh rides across the mansion’s magnificent grounds.
The mansion itself was originally built as a social center for one of Mobile’s regaled family’s; that of Judge John Bragg. The Braggs were said to use the mansion frequently to host renowned social gatherings for their illustrious family, friends and constituents.
The mansion later changed hands with the last family to use it as a residence being the A.S Mitchell family in the 1960’s. It was later converted into a historic site to preserve one of the last charming vestiges of old southern hospitality and charm.
Throughout the winter holiday season the mansion and grounds will of course be adorned in holiday lights and finery so be sure to bring your camera along.
The “Bragg – Mitchell Mansion” is actually considered to be one of the most photogenic buildings in the area even without the thousands of twinkling lights and festive greenery.
