If only every person created beautiful graffiti that reminded you of an abstract mural. Then, it wouldn’t be such a big deal in the minds of people who live around Mission Dolores Park that there is graffiti everywhere. If people who created graffiti focused solely on creating something beautiful, people would truly enjoy waking up in the morning and finding a new mural painted on their wall.
However, we’re not that lucky. Instead, people with no artistic ability or taggers use $2.00 spray paint ruin otherwise boring wall. Worse, anything with a surface is also covered in their self promoting narcissistic anti-art.
Case in point, I have witnessed seven acts of graffiti vandalism in the past five months in the Mission Dolores Park area. Every single person doing this was not only creating a truly ugly and non-artistic piece of public vandalism, but they were also extremely young.
In the meantime, the park is forced to spend a lot of money it doesn’t really have taking care of the graffiti. Instead of focusing their attention on other issues to improve the park, SafeCleanGreen.com must spend donated dollars on removing graffiti. In other words, I think most of the local artists in the Mission Dolores area could use that money. If you’re interested in making the park a safer and graffiti free place, volunteers are welcome at any time. Getting involved is it easy at the Safe Clean Green Mission Dolores website.
