Was Toy Story 3 the end of the series or will there be another?
That’s the question that many fans of the 3D computer-animated film are asking. Will Pixar and Disney churn out a Toy Story 4?
Toy Story 3’s Success
There’s no questioning the highly successful reception of the third movie in the Toy Story series. Along with universal critical acclaim, the film made a killing at the box office.
As of this writing, Toy Story 3 has grossed a whopping $410,772,220 in the United States and Canada alone. Add in the $635,700,000 from other countries and that puts its total at over $1 billion and counting.
As for the stats, that makes the movie the highest-grossing 2010 film worldwide, the 5th highest-grossing film of all time worldwide and the 9th highest-grossing film of all time in the U.S. and Canada.
Toy Story 4?
It doesn’t get much better than that, but will there be a Toy Story 4?
With those numbers, surely Disney won’t skip on the chance to make another one, right? Well, Lee Unkrich, the director of Toy Story 3, has this to say to MSN.
“Well, I really tried my best to end the story of Andy and his toys and bring that story to a close in a really nice way at the end of this film.”
“That being said, we know that people love the characters, love Woody and Buzz, and would hate to say good-bye to them completely. I don’t know that there would ever be a [Toy Story] 4. We don’t have any plans for one – but we are trying to find ways to keep the characters alive. We have announced we’re going to do a short film in front of Cars 2 that uses the Toy Storycharacters.”
“We’re going to keep them alive; they’re not going away forever.”
When Will It Come Out?
So, it looks like Toy Story fans will have to wait and see. It’s good to know that the Toy Story characters aren’t going away, but it almost certainly looks like we will not see a Toy Story 4 anytime soon. After all, we did have to wait over a decade for Toy Story 3.
By no means does that mean it isn’t happening of course. With Toy Story 3’s impressive numbers, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if a fourth installment is released. Again though, time will tell.
Toy Story fans, what do you think? Will there be a Toy Story 4? If so, when do you think it will come out?
