We can be our own worst enemy when it comes to losing weight. Having the best intentions and doing the right things can actually backfire. Are you sabotaging your diet?
You are doing all the right things, eating smaller portions, choosing a healthy balance of foods, avoiding empty calories. What else are you doing in an effort to lose weight? Are you taking things a bit too far?
Skipping Meals Could Sabotage Your Diet. If you skip meals to reduce calories, you can set yourself up to binge, whether by snacking or eating more at your next meal. Some people prefer to eat five or six smaller meals a day, some prefer the basic three meals a day with perhaps a snack at some point. Whatever you choose, be sure to eat on a consistent basis so you don’t get too hungry between meals.
Sabotage Your Diet by Avoiding Carbohydrates. Unless you are carbohydrate-sensitive, you should not be entirely avoiding carbs when dieting. Many carbohydrates are good for you and have necessary nutrients for your body to work properly. Find out some good carbs for weight loss.
Avoiding All Fats Can Sabotage Your Diet. Some fat is necessary to metabolize certain nutrients your body needs. Fat also makes you feel fuller longer helping you eat less. Choose healthy fats such as monounsaturated fats and those with omega-3 fatty acids.
You Can Sabotage Your Diet with the Way You Snack. Sometimes you need a small snack to get you through to your next meal. But even healthy snacks can add up if you eat too many of them. If you find yourself grazing all day long, try to schedule your meals and snacks and find something else to keep you occupied when you stick to the schedule.
Diet Soda Can Sabotage Your Diet. You may think because diet soda has little or no calories it won’t hurt your weight loss efforts. But you can gain weight with diet soda and drinking soda keeps cravings up.
Sabotage Your Diet with Unrealistic Expectations. If you set your weight loss goals too high too quickly, you are just setting yourself up for disappointment if you don’t reach your goal. Also, losing weight too quickly is not healthy. Gradual weight loss with permanent lifestyle changes is a better guarantee of keeping the weight off once you lose it.
Are You Sabotaging Your Diet? There are many other ways you can sabotage your weight loss efforts in addition to those listed above. If you are trying to lose weight and it is not working, you may need to re-evaluate your dieting plans to see if you can do anything differently to avoid sabotaging your diet.
