August 24th is here. Celebrate!
August 24th is a holiday for peach pie, potato chips, strange music and more. Maniacs, single parents and other celebrants mark August 24th as a special day for many reasons. Here are several popular August 24th holidays (arranged alphabetically).
Peach Pie Day
Right in the middle of the peach harvest season, August 24th is Peach Pie Day. You don’t have to live in Georgia Peach country to love peach pie, particularly on August 24th.

Potato Chip Day
Crunch! Crunch! It’s Potato Chip Day on August 24th.
What is your favorite flavor of potato chips? Do you like barbecued potato chips, cheesy potato chips, sour cream and onion potato chips or plain potato chips?
On August 24, 1853, George Crum, a resort restaurant chef in Saratoga Springs, New York, sliced his potatoes extra thin for a critical customer. Apparently, the disgruntled diner whined that his fried potatoes were soggy, so the chef produced crispy and crunchy chips. The idea for Crum’s Saratoga Chips caught on, and the potato chip was born.

Single Parent Family Day
Are you a single parent? Do you have a single parent? If so, we salute you and your family on August 24th. It’s Single Parent Family Day.
Moms and dads who single-handedly manage to hold the helm, stay the course and keep those proverbial home fires burning on their own are lauded and applauded on Single Parent Day each August 24th.
Single Parent Day is a prime occasion for folks to offer to babysit for single moms or dads or to help run errands or manage two-person chores for those who manage all alone during the rest of the year.
Who initiated Single Parent Day, a fine familial holiday? Certainly, no single parent presented the possibility. After all, what single mother or single father would have had time to fill out all that paperwork?
Strange Music Day
August 24th is known as Strange Music Day. What sorts of songs are strangest to your ears?
Perhaps every generation frowns at the sounds of the generations to follow. Still, on August 24th, musical tastes may merge, as folks try to tolerate even the strangest of musical genres.
Sturgeon Moon Day
Native American tribes, particularly in the Great Lakes region of the United States, have celebrated the late midsummer full moon, tagging this lunar occasion as the Sturgeon Moon. Historians attest that the Sturgeon Moon honors the teeming supplies of sturgeon fish in the waters of the North American Great Lakes (Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, Lake Ontario and Lake Superior) during this time of year.
The Sturgeon Moon occurs in late August. Other names for the Sturgeon Moon include the Dog Moon (as in the Dog Days of Summer), the Grain Moon, the Green Corn Moon, the Lightning Moon and the Red Moon.
Although the actual full moon date may vary, August 24th may be seen by many as Sturgeon Moon Day, celebrating the end of mid-summer.
