The first known use of toilet paper dates back to the sixth century in China (probably between 580 A.D. and 589 A.D. Other materials that have been historically used for such personal hygiene purposes include corn husks, grass, hay, lace, leaves, moss, pine cones, rags, seashells, sponges, wooden slats and more.
