Childhood learning has moved beyond simple flash cards and Sesame Street. With shows like Dora the Explorer, Handy Manny and Go, Diego, Go children are exposed to letters, numbers and Spanish before the age of two! The educational video industry has flourished into a multi-million dollar business.
Although I’ve never been a big fan of sitting your child in front of a television, there are some exceptional videos on the market. One of my son’s favorite is Baby Einstein Number Nursery! The video is rated for ages 12 months and older but my 5 month old loves it!
The video is just under 30 minutes long and it introduces numbers 1 through 5. The DVD is full of bright, lively toys, colors and music and it is easy for parents to interact with their children while watching the video. Through repetition, children become familiar with each number and how it is represented. Your child will see the number 3, hear the pronunciation and see the number represented with 3 items.
One great thing about all Baby Einstein DVDs is the language adjustment feature. This DVD can be changed from English to Spanish or French. This allows parents to work with their children in several different languages. Number Nursery includes a special feature called discovery cards that will count from 1 to 10 in seven different languages!
The DVD is rated for 12 months and older but it is a great start for a 5 month old. The DVD grows with your child with special feature like “How Many?” and “Count-Along Activities. These activities prepare your child for classroom encounters in a fun, easy to follow way!
Start your child on the Baby Einstein Numbers Nursery DVD early; it will help them develop language skills and number recognition. Once you begin to prepare your child for those first years of school, Number Nursery will become your best friend!
