The Baltimore Ravens travel for the second week in a row to take on another team in the AFC that loves to toot their own horn. It will be interesting if the Ravens can carry their hatred into a second game in two weeks. This could be a let down game for the Baltimore Ravens if it wasn’t against an AFC North Division rival the Cincinnati Bengals.
Passing Attack of Baltimore Ravens & Cincinnati Bengals Both Should be Improved
The new and improved Baltimore Ravens offense had to contend with a tough and nasty New York Jets defense and it was tough on Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens from the start of the game. Flacco through for 248 yards but no touchdowns against the tenacious defense of the New York Jets. Flacco’s two favorite targets were Anquan Boldin with 110 yards receiving and tight end Todd Heap with 72 yards receiving.
Flacco took advantage of weak cornerback play on the New York Jets. The running game was never established by the Baltimore Ravens and it did hurt their play action pass ability against the never ending new York Jets blitz. Flacco will be a force to be reckoned with as an offensive threat and he should light up the weaker defenses in the NFL. Look for Flacco to work the outside and deep routes in this game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Cincinnati Bengals offense was decent against the New England Patriots. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer threw for 345 yards but much of it was in garbage time. Chad Ocho Cinco was Palmer’s number one target. Ocho Cinco had 159 yards receiving and a touchdown but don’t expect that type of production in this game.
Palmer also has two new rookies that he has already begun to break into the Cincinnati Bengals offense. Jordon Shipley the wide receiver from Texas and Jermaine Gresham the tight end from Oklahoma may not like each others college affiliations but they compliment each other well. The edge on the passing attack goes to the Baltimore Ravens.
Defensive Battle Between Cincinnati Bengals & Baltimore Ravens Will Set Tone
In their game against the New York Jets the Baltimore Ravens put on a clinic. Ray Lewis looked like a young man and the defensive line of the Baltimore Ravens created chaos up front. The secondary was never tested in their game against the New York Jets but that won’t be the case in this game. The only thing the Ravens can do is to blitz most of the game to protect their corners from getting burned deep.
Playing the New England Patriots is tough enough in the first week of the NFL. Now the Cincinnati Bengals defense will take on the new look Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are a team that can get on track with some great receivers this year. The Cincinnati Bengals will have to watch the deep routes in this game because the inside will be avoided by Flacco in this game. Defensive edge goes to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Baltimore Ravens vs Cincinnati Bengals -1: Pick Against the Spread & Final Word
The home team Cincinnati Bengals are a slight one point favorite on the opening line and may end up being a home dog before this Sunday arrives. The hype on the Cincinnati Bengals will come to an end after this game. The Baltimore Ravens may not blow them out of their building but they will make them look bad on their home field. Take the Baltimore Ravens +1 to win over AFC North rival the Cincinnati Bengals.
