What could be more fun than a cake shaped like a basketball! It is a great idea for a centerpiece for a playoff game party or for a birthday cake for your favorite little basketball player. It is simple and fun to make.
2 of your favorite cake mixes
2 jars white frosting
1 jar chocolate frosting
Orange food coloring
Prepare your favorite cake mix according to the package directions in two separate bowls.
Grease two, 2-quart round glass bowls that can be used in the oven.
Pour each cake mix into a glass bowl to make each half of the basketball.
Place in a preheated oven according to the cake mix package directions for glass.
Bake for about 1 hour and then check the center. If it comes clean, the cake is ready, if not bake for awhile longer.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Then turn out on to wire rack which has been covered with aluminum foil. Allow to cool completely.
Flip one cake piece over so that the small flat side is on the bottom.
Place a little chocolate frosting on the top and place the other cake piece on top of the frosted piece. Make sure that the circle lines up and that it is even. Make any necessary trimmings.
Using a plastic baggie, cut a small hole in the corner and add some chocolate frosting to the bag. Pipe the lines onto the cake in the basketball design.
Take the white frosting and orange food coloring and mix together.
Using another plastic baggie, cut another small hole in the corner and add the orange frosting. Carefully pipe around the chocolate frosting and fill in. You can use a star tip for frosting if you have one.
Serve with your favorite ice cream.
