Traveling to Europe this Winter? Why not spend some time at a fabulous ski resort this time. Ski resorts are always a great get away since you can do more than just ski. Most have heated pools, other snow related activities, fun shops to shop in and so much more. Below find some fantastic ski resorts for your European vacation.
Switzerland, obviously with the Swiss Alps, is a fantastic place to take a ski vacation.
This area is part of the French Alps and just perfect for skiing. Close to Gruye’res which is known for it’s delicious cheese, this ski area is the charming, European town you would imagine it is. With beginner to expert trails for skiing, there is also snowboarding. In January there is a wonderful balloon festival, and this area is active all year round.
The closest international airport to Chateau d’ Oex is in Basel, Switzerland, a 2 hour drive.

Another charming area in Switzerland. It is surrounded by incredible glaciers, and they guarantee good snow. This area is a wonderful family getaway, not as much for experts or intermediate skiers who are more advanced. (Great for beginner to intermediate.) What also makes this village special is that there are no cars. Everything you need is right there.
Flying into Geneva, you can then take a wonderfully scenic train to Saas Fee.

WHERE TO EAT
This resort is not known for it’s European charm, but rather it’s wonderful budget-friendly value. With 45 ski lifts (that can carry 50,00 skiers an hour), there are plenty of trails to choose from and plenty of time since a lot of lifts don’t close until 11pm. There is free shuttle bus service, and you can shop at La Croisette, built in the 1970’s.
The closest international airport is actually in Geneva.

“Europe’s highest resort,” this is a a resort and mountain area for the true ski enthusiast. Definitely not for the timid.

WHERE TO EAT (many choices)
You go here for the skiing but also, just as much, the food!
At this popular resort area, great food awaits you as well as snow – sometimes man-made since snowfall is “erratic” in this area. You come here for the food and Italian atmosphere in this very friendly Italian village. Great for those who like to sit in front of the fire, sip hot chocolate and look out at the mountain.
The closest airport is in Torino.

– Bressanone Brixen
A small but gorgeous city with old churches and designer shopping, it has been home to “Region’s bishops.” Surrounded by valleys of wine, this is a great ski resort, and don’t miss the incredible alpine fresco on the church of St. Michael.
The closest airport is Innsbruck Airport in Austria.
