The arrival of fall is one of my favorite times of year because I am always excited about Halloween. Ever since I was young it has been one of my favorite holidays and I vividly recall all the years of getting dressed up and going to our local Haunted House. The thrill of exploring the dark corridors with a scare around every corner. Haunted houses have changed a lot since then, they are much spookier, scarier and more fun. Parents beware, for these haunted houses are not intended for children. Here are a few of the best haunted houses in Houston, Texas to get the wits scared out of you this Halloween.
Nightmare on The Bayou
Houston, Texas 77007
One of the best haunted houses in Houston is “Nightmare on the Bayou,” located next door to the enormous party boy store. This popular attraction has been featured on the Travel Channel as one of America’s scariest Halloween attractions. It is located right next to Houston’s oldest graveyard. You can get coupons to attend at your local Kroger store, at the gate or on their Website here. They are open throughout the month of October. The gate starts selling tickets at 7:00 p.m., and the haunted house doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets prices are $30.00 for a regular ticket, and for $40.00 you get a VIP ticket which gets you to the front of the line. On Sunday night it is family night and tickets are $25.00 each. Also every Thursday with proper I.D. police officers, firemen and active military personnel receive $10.00 off. Here you can get a calendar with the days and times they are open. Note they are open even if it is raining.

Here is a calendar with their dates and times they are open. They are an outdoor haunted house so if the weather is rainy I suggest you call first before heading out. Be sure to wear proper footwear since the Haunted Trails are outdoors in the woods. And remember if it cool to wear a jacket, and be cautious when going through the haunted trails so you do not trip or smack your head on a tree branch. I also strongly suggest parents do not bring their children, it is definitely not appropriate and would surely cause nightmares.
