While you’re busy typing that report, checking email on your home computer, or waiting at the doctor’s office, you can install some apps on your iPhone that will keep younger kids busy while you are doing something else. Older kids from around eight and older probably can already keep themselves busy but for younger children who require a lot of attention there are perfect apps for toddlers and preschoolers that can keep them occupied and less fussy. Try some of these out the next time you are stuck in traffic on the way home from the grocery store.
Scribble Lite is a free app that is simple to use and set up. There are many colors from which to choose and you can change the background to even more colors with the updated version. Like with anything on the iPhone you can use your finger to draw and trace objects. This app is great for younger kids who are learning colors and want something that is hands-on. To erase a picture all you have to do is shake it and then start over. Scribble Lite is free for downloading.
The word “free” in the title has double meaning. Not only does it cost nothing to download BubbleFREE but the object is to make the board free of those annoying bubble wrap pockets of air. When you complete the level you move on to the next one within a time limit. This simple game is better for older kids in kindergarten or first grade who understand that there is a time limit and can push simple commands like go to the next level. Plus BubbleFREE will help improve hand-eye coordination in the process.
There is absolutely nothing complicated about Wooo! Button. All your child has to do is push the big blue button that says “Wooo!” and the game makes a sound akin to someone going “woooo”. For children who are just learning to grab and point at things like two and three year-olds, Wooo! Button provides hours of endless entertainment as they sit there and push the button over and over. Yes, the sound will likely annoy anyone older than age five that is with you but that’s not the point. Wooo! Button is free.
Toddler Teasers Numbers
Toddler Teasers were developed by two parents who were trying to create apps to keep their two year-old busy. What happened was an entire line of Toddler Teasers apps to not only keep your children occupied with a cool tech device but also to instill learning as well. Toddler Teasers Numbers teaches numbers 1 to 9 or goes up to 1 to 100 when your child learns the first nine numbers. There are also games for letters, colors, animals, and more. Any Toddler Teaser app costs 99 cents.
Designed for preschoolers who are just getting a handle on the alphabet, Alphabet Animals teaches children letters by using colorful images of animals such as M for Monkey and D for Dog. There are ways to hear a phrase using the letter in addition to pronouncing the letter itself. Alphabet Animals is 99 cents on the iTunes website.
