The Pop Shop
The Pop Shop in Collingswood, NJ is a 50’s themed soda fountain diner that is well known throughout South Jersey. It is located on Haddon Avenue, in the heart of Collingswood. They were named “Best of Phily 2006” in Philadelphia Magazine for family breakfast. They are well known for their pancakes, which they have many varieties. Pancakes, which are called Bettys in their menu, are rich with flavor and can be made with plenty of different mixes and toppings. Bettys can be made with batter that can be mixed with any of the following bacon, oreos, peanut butter, chocolate chips, walnuts, pecans, bananas, blueberries, or apples. They also have vegan pancakes. With the varying mixes, one can get a pancake that fits one’s tastes. For instance, the pancakes with oreos (known as the Black and White Bettys) can give the customer a crunchy and chocolate flavor mixed in with the traditional buttery flavor of the pancake mix. The Bacon Bettys, which are pancakes filled with bacon, are for those that want a mixture of salt and meat with the sweet texture of a pancake. These pancakes are thick and massive, very filling and fluffy and given in huge proportions. They are priced between $5-8, so pretty affordable. The only drawback to their pancakes are that they are so massive and thick, it’s hard to eat in one sitting. One waitress said the staff has yet to find anyone who was able to finish the pancakes in one sitting and they usually take the rest home.
