Whether your kid is six, 12 or 20 and going back to kindergarten, middle school, high school or college, going back to school can still be cheap if you shop at stores that have back-to-school deals. Cheap back-to-school deals can be found at mega-stores, mom and pop stores, even in online stores as, in this weak economy, they all know parents need all the help they can get. If you’re child is starting a new semester and needs clothing, shoes, school supplies, sportswear, electronics and more, don’t miss looking at these merchants – they’re offering some of the best back-to-school deals around.
Target – One of the best mega-stores for back-to-school deals is Target. This year they’ve got great prices on school uniforms, with uniform skirts as cheap as $9.99-$14.99, girls jumpers at $12.99, boys polo shirts in all colors for $7.99 and pleated pants at $12.99. Pick up a pair of Hello Kitty rainboots for $16.99 or a boys Ben 10 backpack, cool and fun, for only $15.99. Target also has great deals on school supplies. A pack of Elmer’s glue sticks runs at $1.19, binders are $3.14 or a10-pack of ball-point pens for less than a dollar. Most places in America are now close to a Target store and open from early morning till late at night, they’re an easy place to shop for all your back-to-school needs.
Office Depot – Office Depot is running an excellent back-to-school sale throughout the time most parents shop for school supplies, but particularly through Labor Day. They’re not only selling select back-to-school items for 1 cent, but also check your mail and newspaper circulars as they include Office Depot coupons valid from $5-20, depending on how much you spend.
L.L. Bean – One of the best online sites for clothing is L.L. Bean and they’re running a special for back-to-school shopping. Anything you order on their website will be shipped to you free, regardless of how much you spend, so buy one item or buy ten – you’ll still receive it for free. Quality is wonderful on L.L. Bean products too, so whatever you buy your kids for school should last through the whole year (unless they grow too fast, that is!)
Rent Textbooks at Chegg.com – The biggest expense for many parents is the cost of textbooks when their kids go back to school. That’s why renting textbooks at Chegg.com can be such a good deal. Once your child gets the list of textbooks they need, simply go on Chegg’s website and see if they have it. With more than 2 million books in stock, just pick out what you need and place your order.
You’ll be charged a ‘rental fee’, plus a small shipping fee, which even includes returning the books to Chegg for free. Plus, they even let your kid highlight the books they rent, as long as they don’t highlight every page. The cost of renting textbooks at Chegg usually runs at least 50% less than the cost of buying them.
Best Buy – Best Buy has cheap deals on back-to-school netbooks and laptops. You can get netbooks like the Acer Aspire One (I own one, and it’s a great little laptop) for $299, a more powerful laptop like the Asus K50IJ-BNC5 for $599, or an HP Pavilion laptop, fully loaded, for only $799. Check out their “Next Class” section, for some awesome deals on many different computers.
Don’t forget too, although you can grab cheap back-to-school deals before the new semester starts, you can get even better deals a few weeks into the semester, when stores are selling off everything on sale to make way for Halloween and Christmas items. Why not buy just the necessities at first, and wait a few weeks for the rest? You’ll spend a lot less.
