Some of the most common uses for bilberry include diabetes, diarrhea, wounds and chronic venous insufficiency. Primarily, bilberry is used to treat diarrhea. This herb has been used by Europeans for over a millennia for its ability to help relieve the symptoms of diarrhea. Bilberry also contains an astringent, which makes it ideal to use topically on the skin to help reduce inflammation.
To help relieve diarrhea, crush 10 grams of dried bilberry berries into 2/3 cup of water. Bring this mixture to a boil, and let the ingredients boil within the water for 10 minutes. Strain the crushed berries from the water and consume. Take note, only use dried berries to treat diarrhea symptoms and never consume this tea for more than four consecutive days. To add this herb into your daily regime of herbs, consume 120 milligrams of bilberry extract, with a minimum of 25 percent anthocyanidin concentration, up to two times per day.
