During any election it will be obvious attack ads against the other party will be released. This should not come as a shock to anyone who is even a little bit involved in politics. Recently Democratic candidate for Governor of Illinois Pat Quinn, released an attack ad on the Republican candidate Bill Brady. This ad paints the picture of Bill Brady being in favor of mass euthanasia of animals that are in shelters. This mass euthanasia is supposed to include gas chambers. Of course you will have to consider the fact the ad is coming from an opposing party and may not be all factual. In fact, the ad was checked and deemed only “half true” by Politifact.
I have made no secret in recent months that I am not a fan of Bill Brady. Alot of the stances he takes are things I feel very strongly about, including this one on euthanizing these animals. I currently have a shelter cat at home that was adopted by my boyfriend for me as a gift for our first Valentines Day. He is an older cat, around 8 years old. When we got him he was neutered and front declawed. He has been an amazing addition to our family. I also have a bunch of friends that have adopted dogs and cats alike from shelters. This mass euthanasia will take away the possibility these animals have of ever being adopted.
I am aware of the mass overload in some shelters in Illinois. Do I think that killing these animals is the solution? Absolutely not! If Brady would offer a bill that gives free spay or neutering to adopters for their animals, this might help cut down the pet population. Also, if he really wants to go on about shelter animals, he should consider making fixation for pets that aren’t going to be bred mandatory. Things like these would help out the shelters without having to kill massive amounts of adoptable pets.
The fact of the matter is, Bill Brady is absolutely for the euthanasia of these shelter animals. The video Quinn came out with is available to view here.
