Bill O’Reilly has upset people again. This time, it was the ladies of The View who got riled up over comments that the newscaster made while appearing on the show. He said that building a mosque near the site of the 9/11 attacks is inappropriate because Muslims killed our people (people.com). Joy Behar got extremely upset with that remark, as she felt that O’Reilly was discriminating against everyone of that religion instead of the extremists that were responsible for the terrorism. She, and Whoopi Goldberg, left the stage in disgust.
Barbara Walters explained to the crowd that walking away from the situation is not the right way to handle it. So, she continued having a calm discussion with O’Reilly, and made him apologize for insinuating that all Muslims were to blame. He then honored her request and apologized, after which Behar and Goldberg returned to the set.
O’Reilly certainly knows how to tick people off. It’s not the first time that his uncensored opinions have offended the public, and it surely won’t be the last. To see a clip of the incident on The View, click here.
Elizabeth Hasselbeck tried to justify why people feel unkind toward Muslims, or any other religion as a whole, by stating that President Obama did not want to use the word “terrorist” any longer. He has since begun using the term “radical”, and for that reason, people are assuming a closer association between terrorists and the religion that they represent. She wants to call it what it is – that the people who attacked the United States were terrorists. Hasselbeck argues that the term should be applied, no matter what religion is behind it, when people act out with intent to harm others (people.com).
What do you think about the whole thing? Do you have a poor view of all Muslims because of what happened to America on September 11th? Or, are you able to separate religious extremists from the rest of the religious followers?
