I have lived in Detroit all of my life. I love Detroit and I am waiting for it to come back, but there is one City that I love to visit and if I had the resources to move there I would. That city is Birmingham, MI.
If you travel north up Woodward Avenue, you will land smack in the middle of Downtown Birmingham, Michigan. The neighborhood ambiance is wonderful. The atmosphere makes your mind go back to the time when everything was so simple. Men were men, and women were women. Children did not talk back to their parents. It was what it was.
Even though there are many businesses which call areas around this eclectic city home and world headquarters; the overall small city charm has not escaped this wonderful Mid-Michigan City.
In this City you can still see people walking the city streets at late hours, just like in Chicago when you go downtown. The lights all work. And the streets are clean. Proprietors still sweep the ground in front of their stores and make sure that liter is removed from the ground. There is still a sense of pride in the area.
With the state of Michigan being one of the hardest hit states in the union with massive foreclosures mostly in Detroit, and SE Michigan; this area, Troy, Rochester, and Bloomfield have managed to escape the blight of abandoned housing and foreclosed properties. The property values have stayed high.
As I said when I began, I love Detroit, and will probably live here until I die. But oh to dream about that house built from the ground up, like “America’s home makeover”. That’s what I’m talk’n’ about.
