Mayor Bloomberg promoted Officer Feris Jones to detective for her valiant actions and expert marksmanship thwarting the robbery in Sabine’s Hallway Beauty Salon this past weekend. NY1 reported the Mayor administered the oath of office and presented Jones with a gold detective shield.
The shootout at the salon occurred three days earlier. Police say Winston Cox of Bed-Stuy burst into the salon brandishing a firearm while Officer Jones was getting her hair done. The off-duty officer identified herself as an officer-of-the-law after the other patrons were safely out of harm’s way.
Cox then fired his six-shooter four times, nearly killing Jones. However, undeterred, Jones deftly disarmed the villain by shooting him in the hand-stunning everyone, including Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.
The Commissioner lavished praise upon the sharp-shooting Jones at the ceremony, saying “to describe Officer Jones as cool under fire would be a gross understatement.” He added that Jones displayed “stunning marksmanship.”
Notice to all Brooklyn outlaws. There’s a new detective in town.
