Blue Marble Ice Cream closed its storefront at 420 Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill recently. But don’t worry; the operation still has plenty of locations for you get your dairy fix.
The owners Alexis Miesen and Jennie Dundas hope their Boerum Hill customers will make the journey to one of their Prospect Heights or Cobble Hill locations. Or indulge themselves at one of their stands at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Governors Island, or Brooklyn Flea next summer. Blue Marble ice cream is also available in pints at a half-dozen retailers located around the neighborhood.
So, stop having a panic attack already.
Closing night at the Boerum Hill location, the duo held a benefit party for their Blue Marble Dreams Initiative. The initiative opened an ice cream parlor in Butare, Rwanda earlier this year.
The Sweet Dreams ice cream parlor, or Inzozi Nziza, is a first for the formerly war-torn nation. The operation is managed and run by a group of female drummers. The business provides “sustainable, gainful employment for the local women.”
