(UPDATE)- According to a recent press release, the Breckenridge Resort Chamber has updated their holiday schedule with additional events in December. New events include a film fest, a open snow sculpting contest, and Rob Schneider. Additional details provided by the Breckenridge Resort Chamber are below, with the original schedule following.
Dec. 5-11: The third annual Breckenridge Snowflake Challenge revisits the town’s snow sculpting roots. This grassroots event is open to anyone who wants to try their hands sculpting snow and awards a total of $3,250 in prize money. Sculptures will be on display along Main Street through the holidays.
Dec. 8-11: Get ramped up for the Dew Tour with the Summit Action Sports Film Festival. The event will showcase talented filmmakers from around the globe as well as top athletes, live music, industry Q&As with both athletes and filmmakers, photography exhibits, local activities and a wide variety of screenings.
Dec. 10: Rob Schneider of Saturday Night Live fame (and movies including Deuce Bigelow, Male Gigolo and Hot Chicks) hits the Riverwalk Center for an evening of gut-busting comedy in Breckenridge.
(ORIGINAL POST)- In Breckenridge, winter isn’t just a season, it’s a celebration. It’s a celebration of the holidays, of winter sports, of art, and the white stuff that falls at this time of year that defines an entire lifestyle. The town’s full schedule of winter events provides plenty of opportunity to be part of the celebration.
Lighting of Breckenridge (Dec. 4) - The day long celebration marks the transformation of Breckenridge into a winter wonderland village which includes cookies, cocoa, carolers, a German-style Christmas market, tree lighting, and Santa making his appearance and greeting the public.
Holiday Market (Dec. 4-5 and 11-12) – Go holiday shopping along the town’s Main Street complete with roasted chestnuts, hot spiced cider, mulled wine, and visits with Santa.
3rd annual Winter Dew Tour (Dec. 16-19) – Breckenridge hosts the opening dates for the annual event where the world’s best winter athletes compete in ski and snowboard events.
New Year’s Eve Celebration (Dec. 31) – Breckenridge celebrates the New Year with a torchlight parade that runs downs the slopes of Breckenridge Ski Resort. Fireworks display brings in the New Year with a bang.
Ullr Fest (Jan. 9-15, 2011) – The annual week-long celebration in honor of the Norse God of snow includes a parade down Main Street, live entertainment, and competitions such as the Ullr Dating Game and the Ullympics.
Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships (Jan. 25-30, 2011) – Teams from around the world compete to transform 20-ton blocks into works of art by hand.
