Brett Michaels rocked Hampton Beach’s Casino Ballroom this past Friday in Hampton, N.H.
I felt like I won the lottery when my girlfriend called me with an extra ticket that afternoon. My boyfriend was visiting and offered to babysit and even my eleven year old daughter who has been recuperating from a tonsillectomy said, “I think you should go mom”, and proceeded with picking out my clothes for the evening. These circumstances almost never happen simultaneously and I had to take advantage of this last minute miracle.
I hadn’t been on a girl’s night out for about six years; before my mom got sick with cancer. Not only was this going to be a big night out, but Brett Michaels! I’ve been a fan since the eighties and I think he is not only a phenomenal performer, but he is one hell of a survivor. Not only has he managed to persevere through twenty (or more) years in the music industry; but he managed to survive a brain hemorrhage, a hole in his heart and being a lifelong diabetic. The man is truly astounding.
I slightly teased my hair and reminisced of the eighties, dressed in my daughter’s ripped jeans. I thought to myself of how much I have survived too. My forty-two year old feet started aching in the heels I had on but before I could wine about it, I just thought about Brett Michaels. The forty-seven year old rocker, producer, writer, director, actor, etc., I said to my screaming toes, if Brett can do it, you can too!
The show was fantastic. Brett sang the classics, like Poison’s Talk Dirty to Me, Every Rose has it’s Thorn and Unskinny Bop. He also sang some new stuff and covered Sublime’s Love is What I’ve Got. Brett Michaels paused many times to honor the men and women in the military, and at one point the concert stopped while Brett Michaels made sure a handicapped woman made it through. He reached out to his fans repeatedly. He exudes goodness and make an eighties girl proud.
Thankyou Brett Michaels for rocking Hampton Beach, for making my big night out memorable, and for all you do and represent.
