Breukelen (slang for Brooklyn) had its soft opening on Friday, September 3, in the spot where the old Cafe on Clinton once was. Breukelen, located at 261 Clinton Street in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, has been trying to open for quite a while now, but was still as of last week, waiting for the proper permits to open its doors.
The new restaurant features dimly lit lighting and beautifully rustic brick walls. The garden seating in the back of the restaurant makes for extra added appeal. The cafe still looks the same from the outside as it did when it was known as the Cafe on Clinton, with it’s beautifully framed windows. The inside decor is made from recycled materials, although you could never tell by the looks of it.
The menu is also wallet-friendly with prices ranging for $9 – $26 (for a main course). The restaurant itself seats about 40 on the inside, and the outside seating area, seats just about a dozen more. There is also patio and bar seating in the backyard as well. The bar is stocked with great selections of wine and beer. The restaurant promises a new menu daily however, several daily dishes will not change.
The Cafe on Clinton was an important staple in the Cobble Hill section and the new restaurant will have a high standard to live up to. Visit Breukelen after its opening on Friday and see what all of the fuss is about.
