‘A Righteous Kiss’
Season 5 | Episode 4 | Aired 10/17/10
The episode starts with Rebecca and Justin (Dave Annable) back in bed. Rebecca is obviously thinking she made a mistake. Justin manages to talk her into staying for breakfast. At breakfast, David calls, telling them that Holly is missing and he has called the police.
Meanwhile, Holly (Patricia Wettig) knocks on Nora’s door, wanting to talk to William. She has no clue that William has been dead for years. She panics and locks herself in Nora’s bathroom. After some comforting and persuading by Nora, she finally opens the door and lets Nora take her to the hospital.
Sarah is shown frantically sewing costumes for the school play. She is doing this to make a good impression on the mothers who have an influence in the school that she wants Cooper to attend. Sarah manages to convince Kevin, Saul (Ron Rifkin), and Saul’s new interest (Stephen Collins) to help her with the sewing.
This new love interest of Saul’s, named Charlie, seems to be going wonderfully, other than the fact that Saul is scared to tell him that he is positive. When he manages to tell him, Charlie tells Saul that he lost his partner to AIDS and watched him slowly die over a period of 10 years. He doesn’t want to risk doing that again.
Back at the play that Sarah has been going nuts on sewing these costumes. Midway through the play, one of the costumes rips. It just happens to be the costume of the child of the pretentious, influential mothers. Cooper takes Luc’s (Gilles Marini) kissing advice and plants one on Juliet, who in turn ends up knocking over the scenery. Sarah tries apologizing to the mothers, but they start criticizing her parenting skills and her living situation with Luc. Sarah finally drops the act of bending over backwards for them, and tells them what she really thinks of them.
Kitty (Calista Flockhart) has been helping Jack, with some of his odd jobs. It seems to go on PG rated until Jack admits some strong feelings and kisses her. Kitty freaks and runs off. “If you had any idea what I’ve been through you definitely would not have kissed me.”
Rebecca lets Nora know that she has a job offer in New York that she has been hiding from Justin. She is unsure about whether she should take it. The doctors decide that seeing Holly may help, but may hurt too. She ends up going in to see her. Rebecca mentions a man named Daniel. Holly realizes that if she ended up telling her about Daniel, this painful part of her past, she must’ve truly trusted and loved Rebecca. But she still doesn’t feel anything for her. Justin is supportive in Rebecca going to New York. He realizes that they have a new relationship now, and cannot go backwards into their past. Rebecca leaves, and takes a photo of David and Holly in the hospital coffee shop.
