Have you ever wondered how much work goes into the making of an artificial tree? Even if it’s not a high-quality Christmas tree you still have to have a stand, a long dowel to use for the tree itself and rods that hold the garland pieces. Did you know that building a Christmas tree is much simpler than that? You don’t even need tools to make a tree – except for a hot glue gun!
You can make a tree as tall or short as you want it to be by visiting a place that sells cheap wreaths. A dollar-theme store is just such a place. Browse their holiday section and you’ll find all the wreaths you need to build a nice Christmas tree in minutes. These types of stores sell everything at the same price – a buck – and they feature many different sizes of wreaths that are perfect for building a Christmas tree.
Select an assortment of wreaths – depending upon how large you want the finished tree to be – from a large one down to a really small one. Purchase only wreaths that have no decorations or bows. You can decorate the tabletop Christmas tree after it’s finished.
At home, lay the largest wreath on a flat surface. Apply hot glue around the circle and press the next wreath into it. Each wreath should be just a little smaller than the previous one. Make sure that, as you stack the wreaths, each one is perfectly positioned and centered. Continue adding wreaths until the tree is as tall as you want.
If you want to build just a small tree you can use as few as three wreaths. For a larger one, of course, use more than that. If the tree you’ll be building will be really tall you can double up on sizes. That is, use two large wreaths, then two of the nex size, then two more of the next size. This technique also helps you create a tree that alternates colors of wreaths, like green and white.
If you have lengths of garland, but no wreaths, make your own! Craft stores sell a variety of metal rings in assorted sizes. Glue or wire the garland to the rings then use them to build your tabletop Christmas tree.
Use miniature Christmas ornaments, satin bows, or other embellishments to decorate the tree the way you want. This tree can be displayed at home or can be given as a gift. It makes a great décor piece or the actual Christmas tree for a small home.
