Our country is going crazy right now. We are running around like headless chickens trying to stop bullying in schools because we’ve had a few incidences where bullied children killed themselves, or killed other students.
Have you realized that this kind of behavior has increased after we took prayer out of school? I remember when I was in fifth grade (that was about 1997), we prayed in class daily. There was no more prayer after that year.
When I moved to a mostly black school, we did pray time to time. I’m sorry, but the law enforcers aren’t going to stop black people from praying! It’s just not going to happen. But I am proud to say that we didn’t have any tragedies associated with bullying at that school.
I understand the idea of separating church and state, but for the most part, most Americans are believers. We all may not be religious or Christians, but we are believers. Most of us pray from time to time in our own personal lives. I, myself pray all the time. I don’t understand why we have to alter our laws to suit people who don’t believe in God or prayer. They are largely outnumbered. If they don’t like it, then they should step outside until the prayer is over.
We have to put up with all this crap going on in the schools just because 20% of our population are non-believers. What about the 80% that does believe? Why do they have to suffer? Why not allow the non-believing kids to step out in the hall as the class prays? Is that too much to ask?
People underestimate the power of prayer. They think that it’s just a religious habit, and it has not benefits. But now that kids are being killed, we keep hearing the families and friends of those victims saying, “Keep them/us in your prayers”. Oh now you want prayer, huh?
I wrote a couple of articles about bullying, but the idea of bullying isn’t new. Our parents were bullied, their parents were bullied…it’s just something that people go through. What’s new is the reaction that the victims are having to the bullying. The victims are now killing themselves and others. If that isn’t worthy of prayer, I don’t know what is.
Parents need to teach their kids how to deal with people. Kids need to know how to stand up to their bullies. It’s crazy to think we’re going to stop bullying all together. We just need to raise kids to be stronger. Homicide and suicide is a weak thing. These kids are simply weak, and that needs to change.
It’s just like domestic violence. We keep telling men to stop hitting women, but we never tell women to straighten up and stop allowing men to put their hands on her. These women need to strengthen themselves before the men can change-and it’s the same thing with bullying. The VICTIM needs to change, not the bully. Well, the bully needs to change too, but we can’t make them. We always hear people say, “You can’t control what people do, but you can control how you react”. That’s what these victims need to be taught. They need to be taught how to react, and homicide, suicide, or any other violence is not the way.
