“Burn Notice” Season 4 Episode 13 “Eyes Open” starts with Michael in the hospital after being shot and in a car crash in the previous episode, very much the worse for wear. “Where am I?” he asks. “Miami,” Fi tells him, repeating the line from the pilot.
Michael and company have two problems now. First, the coded document that would be decoded using the Bible code has been stolen by a person unknown. The document contains a list of all the people who burned Michael and then blamed the nefarious deeds of people like Simon on him in order to cover up their operation. If Michael can get the document back, he can inflict a lot of hurt on the people who hurt him.
In the meantime, a mad bomber is on the loose, setting explosives to blow up gang members and anyone else in the immediate proximity. At first, it is thought that the mad bomber is working for a former client whose daughter was kidnapped. More innocent lives will be lost unless the bomber is stopped. And Fi’s solution, to just shoot him, will not serve. He has already set as many as four bombs around the city with triggers that are so imperfectly made that they will detonate at any time whether the signal is sent or not.
Two more complications. Jesse still hates Michael and company for burning him then lying about it. However, stopping the mad bomber is the right thing, so he is willing to set aside the hurt feelings for now. Secondly, Michael really needs to spend a couple of weeks healing. But, as usual, there is no time for that.
An ordinary super spy would have been hampered by reduced strength and dexterity; Michael is to some extent. But Michael operates as much by his wits and his intelligence as he does by his skills at running and jumping. Besides, he has Fi, Sam, and Jesse to do the physical work for him.
Worming his way into the mad bomber’s confidence as a fan of his was a little hazardous; did we not say that the bomber was mad? However, Michael succeeds and, eventually, becomes his heir as the police close in. This allows for the other bombs to be found and defused.
In the meantime, the trail of the missing document reaches a dead end when a decoding expert is found dead in his house. Whoever has the document is a very serious dude indeed.
