As an American citizen, I was sickened and saddened by the terrorist attacks that caused massive widespread destruction and took the lives of so many of my fellow man. I consider myself fortunate. I did not personally lose a family member or loved one, but my heart ached(then) and still does for each and every person who did. The people who carried out these acts were called terrorists for a reason; they were sick and brain-washed. What I would refer to as fundamentalists.
On that note as I read about Reverend Terry Jones and his idiotic plight, I once again feel sickened. I want to go on record as saying that I, as an American Citizen, feel that such an act has no place in civilized society. Our great country was founded on the concept of freedom, that includes freedom of religion, which is a constitutional right afforded to every citizen. In my opinion, Religious Leaders should be shining examples of peace and peace-keeping, and should certainly not be carrying out public acts of vengeance and intolerance.
Terry Jones should be locked up to prevent him from carrying out this stupid demonstration. I feel it is just a sensationalist stunt, dreamed up by a small town pastor, as a way to gain notoriety for himself and his church. What he is planning, and I don’t care to hear the reasons or excuses he uses to support, makes him just as bad, if not worse than the fundamentalist groups he claims to be sending a message to. The only message he could possibly send is: ” I’m an idiot looking for my fifteen minutes of fame.”
Not only is he about nine years too late to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks, he is way out of line. If he really wants to honor the victims, he could send their families a big fat check, or hold a memorial service, or plant a tree. Surely he could find a more positive way to honor the memories of those who perished. Is this who you want leading your spiritual journey? It’s surely not who I would want commanding mine. I would be much too afraid I’d wind up drinking poison.
