In a never-ending quest to brighten add life to my dry hair, without using heavy conditioners, I decided to try Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Shampoo in the Grapefruit and Sugar Beet blend.
This product was purchased at a local grocery store (Kroger) for $3.99. This price point was a “Manager’s Special”; the regular price is $7.99. This 12 fl. ounce bottle has a ‘flip cap” type dispenser which works well to dispense the product without any more than needed. I have also seen the product at Walgreen’s and Target in my local area.
In the past, I have tried salon products which cost more and claim to clean and shine hair without weighing it down. Since Burt’s Bees is a brand I have used in the past for lip care products, I decided to give the hair care product a try.
According to the bottle, Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Shampoo is 98.8% natural and contains Essential Citrus Oils. It lists plant-based cleansers and Sugar Beets to help repair damage. It also states that there are no sulfates, parabens, phthalates or petrochemicals, and never uses animal testing.
At the time of this review, I have used Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Shampoo seven times. My hair is fine but I have a lot of hair, which tangles easily. I followed the directions which simply were to wet hair, massage into hair and scalp and rinse well (repeat if necessary). The first thing I noticed was that the shampoo smells very refreshing with a citrus-scent. It is not the best scent I have ever smelled for shampoo but it is definitely pleasant and refreshing. I have a feeling that the conditioner in the same scent would help hair to retain the refreshing smell longer than just using the shampoo.
Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Shampoo lathers very easily. I like the way the bottle dispenses because I do not feel like I am wasting an excess amount. It was also easy to rinse out without feeling any residue left on my hair. It also does a great job of cleaning hairspray out of my hair and worked well to help detangle my hair and control static.
My final test was to see if this product works for my seven year old daughter’s hair as well. My daughter has long hair that is much thicker in texture than mine. First of all, she loved the scent of this Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo. Again, the dispenser made it very easy for her to get “just enough” of the product without waste. She was also able to rinse the product out of her hair easily.
For both of us, we noticed our hair looked shinier and felt softer after using Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Shampoo. It is my hunch that part of that is the citrus ingredients which do a wonderful job of cleansing impurities from hair.
My overall opinion of the product is that it is a great value for the price. It is priced in between the average “grocery store” shampoo and a salon brand shampoo, which makes sense. I have had salon shampoos which I like a lot better but cost much more per ounce. For the price, I would highly recommend this product, especially if you have dry hair or hair that easily tangles.
