Whether it is in a store, a major corporation, the medical field or any other type of business, you are going to deal with customers. There is no place in the business and service world where a company does not deal with one sort of customer or another. Therefore, as a business owner, you must focus on making your business a customer-service friendly one.
Do not make the assumption that everybody that you hires know how to treat the customer. While some may already have experience in the field, others have no clue how to handle customers who have problems, complaints and issues. Therefore, it is important to train individuals in the area of customer service.
Create different scenarios in where new employees interact with the customers. Ensure that they smile when they are approaching and behaving in a friendly way.
Teach them how to listen effectively. By listening, they can understand what the customer is saying. In turn, the employees can handle and correct the situation in a quick and efficient manner.
Create a scenario where a customer is rude and disrespectful. While it is human instinct to act in a rude and disrespectful way back to the antagonizer, the employee can learn to treat each situation in a calm and professional manner.
Always have a plan if an employee cannot handle a specific situation. Have a list of contacts at the customer service desk to assist in handling different complaints. For example, there may be a no return policy for a specific item. If the customer is irate because he cannot get a refund for this item, instead of letting the situation escalate, use the backup list to contact a manager to help handle the situation.
Go over the more common customer complaints with your new employees. This allows them to be prepared and know how to handle the situation.
While training is important for your new employees, it is also important to apply what they learn. Make sure that they take care of the customer first before working on non-customer jobs. They must be willing to help them whenever they have a question.
It is very important to make your company a customer-service one. This is essential if you want your customers to come back for future business. An individual would prefer to drive miles out of their way to shop at a place that provides excellent customer service. If your business is not customer service friendly, the individual would drive right by without blinking an eye.
