One Block West Restaurant
25 S. Indian Alley
Hours of Operation: 11 AM to 2 PM & 5 PM to closing, Tuesdays through Saturdays
Ed Matthews, the owner and chef of One Block West Restaurant, is a character who happens to also cook magnificently. Just a brief review of the restaurant website gives you that impression, but a thorough reading of reviews and the articles which have featured One Block West will confirm said suspicion.
Ed has a jewel of a restaurant because of his talent and vision. One Block West has a wonderful website that features the day’s specials and through which one can also make reservations. The restaurant also has a Facebook page, a Twitter page and a blog.
Reservations are suggested anytime, but necessary for the weekends. They can be made by telephone or via their website. In addition to the specials, Chef Matthews also offers limited catering services, a “Tasting Menu” every Thursday by reservation and a “Custom Chef’s Tasting” menu by special reservations.
According to the website, the restaurant welcomes vegetarians and amazingly offers over 70 wines by the glass.
Interested parties can also access a wonderful article written about the restaurant by Virginia Living magazine on the website.

Restaurant reviews indicate that the food is uniformly delicious and beautifully presented. Some report the prices being high “for the area,” but not for the quality of the food.
