Call of Duty has done an excellent job at delivering a fabulous First Person Shooter (FPS) game each and every year. One would expect that eventually the franchise would falter. Enter Call of Duty Black Ops. Its campaign mode covers the birth of the Special Forces during the Cold War.
Narrating this epic drama is Alex Mason. However, he’s not doing it in the normal fashion. He’s a prisoner of the infamous Nikita Dragovich and he’s being interrogated by Russian operatives.
Each section of the game takes place in a wide range of locations all over the world. The characters you control may change from section to section, but all parts work together to create a pulse pounding story.
The game itself is fairly linear. As with most Call of Duty titles, they give the illusion of more by putting interesting elements on the periphery while having you stay on mission by having you follow yellow markers.
For many though, the game is all about the multi-player aspect. New modes have been introduced to keep new and old fans happy. There are also plenty of old game types that fans have loved from the past.
Backing all this multi-player mayhem going is an amazing array of perks, kill streaks, and upgrades, you can use to make it never lose its replay value.
The new Call of Duty point system is a new twist on how you unlock extra content as well as make wager matches more interesting. A wager match involves you betting Call of Duty points against others online. You don’t need luck for this gamble; you only need skill.
Every indication is that this game has not let fans down. Despite the changes made, everyone has found the same game enjoyment they found in previous installments in the series.
This game has been released for the PC, Xbox 360, and the Playstation 3. It is an adult title which means parents should be advised to look at the content more closely before buying it for their child. The subject matter is serious and has the potential of offending some people. The average price for this game is $60 and on many levels it’s worth every penny. Those who wait to purchase this title may have fewer people to play with online since this franchise is known for putting out a game each and every year. That means some of your friends might be busy with the next Call of Duty game while you’re playing catch up.
