Campbell’s Select Harvest Light Minestrone with whole grain pasta contains no MSG. With lentils in the recipe, I was wondering if I would prefer the Campbell’s soup to my favorite Amy’s Lentil Vegetable soup.
First I compared the two soups according to taste. The Amy’s organic Lentil Vegetable has nice pieces of carrots and green beans. It’s flavorful but not spicy. It has a robust, hearty flavor and texture that is not too thick. You can taste the spinach in the Amy’s Lentil Vegetable soup, which is gluten free.
The Campbell’s Select Harvest Light Minestrone with whole grain pasta is not gluten free. It tasted watery to me. To me the Campbell’s Select Harvest Light Minestrone has a more tomato flavor. While I liked the taste of the Amy’s soup better, I thought the Campbell’s Select Light Minestrone was tasty.
Here’s what I learned about Campbell’s Select Harvest Light from my review:
No. 1: Campbell’s Select Harvest Light calories: 80 calories in a cup versus the 160 calories in the Amy’s soup. But I found the Amy’s soup was much more filling so that’s the trade off.
No. 2: Campbell’s Select Harvest Light with whole grain pasta nutritional information: The Light Minestrone has a half a gram of fat, 4 grams of fiber, 4 grams of sugar, 480 mg sodium compared to the Amy’s Lentil Vegetable with 4 grams of fat, 8 grams of fiber (or twice as much), 5 grams of sugar, 340 mg sodium.
No. 3: Campbell’s Select Harvest Light with whole grain pasta ingredients: It contains water, tomato puree, carrots, zucchini, red pepper spinach, lentils, cooked pasta and less than 2 percent of sea salt, extra virgin olive oil, onions, garlic, chicken, yeast extract, cabbage, celery leave, parsley, spice and other ingredients. I have to say, the ingredient list was a great improvement over many of the soups on the market.
No. 4: Where to find Campbell’s Select Harvest Light Minestrone: I found it as Public Grocery store in the soup section. The Amy’s soups I found at Public in the special health section. Amy’s can always be found at health foods stores as well.
No. 5: Campbell’s Select Harvest Light Minestrone weight watchers points: For those on Weight Watchers, the Campbell’s soup only has 1 Weight Watcher point in a one cup serving. It woud pair nicely with a turkey sandwich or spinach salad.
Although I still prefer my Amy’s Lentil Vegetable, the Campbell’s Select Harvest is less expensive and a healthy option. For taste and nutrition, I give the Select Harvest Minestrone 4 out of 5 stars.
