Brooklyn , New York, October 21 – With election day a little more than a week away, candidates for the office of governor in New York state are on the prowl for voters. One specific candidate that catches my eye is Andrew Cuomo. Andrew Cuomo currently serves as the New York state attorney general and he has a great track record. As the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Andrew Cuomo helped to make more affordable housing available to those in need. While in this office he also helped to create jobs and found ways to help with the development of our economy. His efforts to get this country’s homeless off the streets, into homes and helping them get jobs cannot go unnoticed either. These accomplishments are just a few that are on Andrew Cuomo’s resume yet they stand out to me.
One of the key issues in New York State right now is the unemployment rate. More and more people are becoming unemployed as time goes by and this is unfortunate. Many of these people have children, mortgages, insurances and many other expenses that they need to take care of. Andrew Cuomo states that we must get the unemployed back to work and create jobs by giving small businesses rewards for hiring new workers. Not only that, he plans to lower the cost of doing business in New York state to give those who are here the opportunity to get these benefits and those who plan to come even more of a reason to get here. You can read more on his agenda here. Can Andrew Cuomo cater to the unemployed as New York’s governor? This issue is important to me because I’ve been unemployed for a few months now and as we know jobs are scarce.
Although unemployment benefits are a blessing, some living expenses must be cut out due to limited funds. A person can only go but so long without an income they are use to depending on. Many candidates for political offices present a promising agenda to potential voters so they can get that office but when they get in they are either corrupt individuals or they simply can’t deliver what they promised. Although you can’t always predict the outcome of any elected official’s success or failure, Andrew Cuomo has put in the time and effort to bring change to this country. I am confident that Andrew Cuomo can deliver results for New York’s unemployed. I sincerely hope that if New York elects Andrew Cuomo as governor, he will keep New York first and fight his hardest to get us some results for our unemployment crisis among other needed solutions. Get out and vote November 2nd 2010 New York!
