Will the Bears beat the Detroit Lions this Sunday? If you remember, the Detroit Lions lost to the Bears in the first game of the season on a technicality. The Lions will be looking for revenge. So, again, I ask you: Will the Bears beat the Detroit Lions this Sunday? And if they can, what will it take?
Jeff Joniak has posted his “Keys to the Game” at the Chicago Bears’ website, and they agree with mine, so I am sharing them with you.
How can the Bears beat the Lions?
First, it is important to understand that these are two different teams. Both teams are better, but I think the Bears have “melded” more. Frankly, they have had to deal with fewer injuries.
The Bears must continue growing with their offensive line. The offensive line has done a lot of good things the last couple of weeks, but every so often they still have a major meltdown, and Jay Cutler has already had one concussion.
Cutler must continue using his legs. He can gain yardage and he can roll out. He is more mobile than he showed the first few weeks of the season. Mike Martz must continue using the run. This has allowed the offense to pull off better pass plays.
The defense has done a great job most of the year. They must continue to do that, but they must pay special attention to Calvin Johnson, who has been scoring touchdowns all year.
The Bears’ Special Teams must continue to give the Bears good field position.
When you look at the situation, the Bears should have no trouble winning the game. They have been showing a great amount of improvement, and frankly they have the better team.
However, there are three reasons I am worried. First, it is an NFC North game. Anytime you play in your own division, it is going to be tough not to mention the fact that the Bears are on the road. Next, Detroit lost to the Bears on a technicality, so they will be pumped. Finally, the Bears are coming off of a dramatic win over a strong team, and I am a little worried about a “letdown.”
Still, the Bears did show me something against the Eagles, and I think the Bears will win 24-13.
