Candy canes are a very popular Christmas candy. But you can do more with candy canes than just hang them in the Christmas tree. They can be used to make fun Christmas crafts. Here are just a few ideas of what you can make with candy canes.
Candy Cane Christmas Sleigh
To make a candy cane sleigh, you will need two candy canes for each sleigh. You will also need something flat for the base of the sleigh. You can use a piece of cardboard (cereal box cardboard is good). Cut the piece of cardboard so it fits the size candy canes you are using (you can use any size). See this image to get an idea of how you should cut the cardboard. You can then paint the cardboard red or green. Or you can cover the cardboard with red or green construction paper. Then run a strip of hot glue along the top of each candy cane and attach the cardboard. Bag up some small candies and put them on the sleigh for decoration.
Candy Cane Christmas Toboggan
This is a very simple candy cane craft that you can make to act as a gift holder for a money gift. Simply take four candy canes and hot glue them together side by side. Add some ribbon for decoration. Look at this image to see a finished toboggan.
Candy Cane Christmas Mouse
This is a super cute craft that is fun for kids of all ages to make. Start by cutting a tear drop shape out of green craft felt. Cut two short slits in the felt near the narrow end. Then cut a long oval shape out of red craft felt. Pass the red felt through the slits. Slip a candy cane under the red felt on the under side of the mouse. Add a red nose and wiggle eyes. See this photo to see the top side of a finished mouse. See this photo to see how you attach the candy cane to the underside of the mouse. You can hang these candy cane mice in the tree as ornaments. They also make nice stocking stuffers.
Candy Cane Christmas Hearts
Using any size candy cane, simply glue two candy canes together in a heart position as seen in this photo. You can use hot glue to make them stick. Add a string or ribbon if you want to hang the hearts in the Christmas tree as ornament.
Candy Cane Christmas Reindeer
You can whip up an entire heard of reindeer in just minutes with just a few craft supplies. You need candy canes, green or brown pipe cleaners, wiggle eyes and tiny red pom poms. Twist a piece of pipe cleaner around the curve of the candy cane then kink them to make them look like antlers. Glue two wiggle eyes on the candy cane and a pom pom nose under the eye. Look at this photo to see how to assemble this craft.
