The Carolina Panthers look more like sacrificial lambs in this game against the New Orleans Saints October 3rd. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints cannot afford to drop two NFC South Division games in a row. The Carolina Panthers enter the Louisiana Superdome with a rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen and a running game that is not performing up to snuff.
Passing Attack of New Orleans Saints Still Deadly While Carolina Panthers Are Work in Progress
Drew Brees may have lost his last game against his NFC South division rival Atlanta Falcons but he is still the best quarterback in the NFL on any given day. Brees can move the ball down field and he can lead. The New Orleans Saints will be looking to get the bad taste out of their mouths after losing at home last weekend. Look for Brees to make a statement on offense in this game against the Carolina Panthers.
Jimmy Clausen, the rookie quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, will be thrown into the fire against a New Orleans Saints defense that loves to create havoc on the field and distract the quarterback. Clausen threw for 188 yards and one interception in a losing cause and did have a few close calls for his first throwing touchdown. Clausen will be hard pressed to break 100 yards in this game against a hungry New Orleans Saints defense. Passing attack edge is obvious. The New Orleans Saints will have the edge in the passing department over the Carolina Panthers.
Running Game for both New Orleans Saints & Carolina Panthers Under Performing
A Carolina Panthers backfield of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart should be strong enough to run through any defense but they have struggled to have a big game to this point in the 2010 NFL season. Jonathan Stewart has only rushed for 68 yards to this point of the season and DeAngelo Williams only has 180 yards in three games, 64 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Pierre Thomas is now the man for the New Orleans Saints at running back with Reggie Bush sidelined for six weeks. Thomas had a scary moment in the Atlanta Falcons game going down with a twisted knee. Thomas did come back in the game and broke off a 23 yard run but keep an eye on the injury reports during the week. Running game edge goes to the Carolina Panthers over the New Orleans Saints.
Carolina Panthers vs New Orleans Saints -11: Pick Against the Spread & Final Breakdown
The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook has set the line for the New Orleans Saints at -11 points over the Carolina Panthers. The line is nowhere near high enough for a team that is smarting from their first loss to an NFC South Division rival.
One thing to remember on this game is that the New Orleans Saints were not a team that covered the spread last year and have failed to cover any spreads this season. Take the stat with a grain of salt but don’t dismiss it completely. Take the New Orleans Saints -11 over the Carolina Panthers.
