Carroll Gardens based real estate developer and architect, Alex Barrett, finished his latest neighborhood project in the Columbia Waterfront District at 25 Carroll St. The 17-unit residential building was Barrett Design & Development’s sixth completed project-all in Carroll Gardens. The finishing touches included installing two recycled shipping containers on the rooftop terrace.
The five-story building built in 1898 by Francis Romeo, originally housed a pasta manufacturing business. Since 1920, the building has been used for a variety of purposes including furniture manufacturing.
The original stone masonry and heavy-timber structure were retained to mark the building’s industrial past. Barrett hoped to respect the character of the building and its history by utilizing as much of the original materials as possible. Additional materials and labor were locally sourced.
The lofts are priced between $475,000 and $1.45 million. All of the sales are being handled by Mrs. Lindsay Barrett of the Corcoran Group.
