A mother always believes her son. Even if he’s lying through his teeth and has no reason to think that he’s actually innocent, a mother will defend her son. It’s something innate. In the case of the Carroll Gardens Killing, she may even be right.
The dead man, 47 year old WABC radio host, was a predator. Whether or not the child solicited himself on Craigslist for underage sex or whether it was the other way around; the child is a child and the adult is the adult.
Of course there’s the issue of the cocaine. Was any cocaine actually introduced? The young man, John Katehis would like you to believe there was. That was why he stabbed George Weber, after all. Police toxicology disagrees.
It was the cocaine, your honor! The coke made me do it!
Of course the corpse of George Weber speaks for itself. Stabbed more than 50 times, as reported back in the Brooklyn Eagle (1). Stab wounds like those don’t lie. Of course then Katehis says he only remembers grazing the deceased once. Because of the cocaine.
The lawyers are out; the deceased’s throwing the book at the boy; Katehis’ simply shrugging and repeating the words of the boy.
But what really happened Carroll Gardens? I guess as this trial rolls on we’ll all try and find out. Look for an engaged and attentive jury and reporting. Even if we all already have made up our minds on the matter of guilt.
