The aim of Ronen Givony and his project Wordless Music is to demonstrate that the various genre distinctions and boundaries segregating music today, whether it be pop or classical, low-fi or electronic, high brow or urban, are all illusory constructions in need of dismantling. His performances aim to break down the barriers that listeners have constructed in their minds and open them up to a new listening experience devoid of preconceptions.
Givony, who resides in Carroll Gardens, pairs classical musicians with rock and pop performers and regularly holds performances at four different venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn, the smallest being a 300-capacity church at Lincoln Center, as well as various unconventional churches and an 800 seat temple. His concerts are attended by a diverse crowd of listeners and have been broadcast on WNYC and Radio Lab’s Jad Abumrad show.
