Carroll Gardens is hosting the Smith Street Soup Festival this Saturday, October 23rd on Smith Street (obviously) between Atlantic Ave and Carroll street. A mere $5 will procure you 20 tastes of 20 different soups from 20+ local restaurants.
Considering that the size of the tastes is 4 ounces, you may want to consider making this your lunch or dinner meal. 80 ounces of soup is quite the hearty helping. Although the time of the festival, 1-4pm, may even make it possible for the Soup Festival to serve as a lunch-dinner combined super meal.
80 ounces of soup, after all, can be down-right intimidating.
The festival will reportedly feature soups from Verde, Bar Tabac, Raga, Lunetta, Bombay Dream, Cubana Café, Seersucker, Cibao, Pene e Vino, Athena, El Nuevo Portal, Oaxaca, Provence en Boite, Chestnut, Savoia, Zayton’s, Sue Perette, The Jakewalk, Vinnies of Carroll Gardens, Union Smith Café, and more.
The festival will of course include a soup-contest to be judged by a panel of “celebrity” judges who will award Gold, Silver and Bronze soup labels to the top three soups in three different categories.
Proceeds will benefit the Culinary Arts program at the High School for international studies as well as the South Brooklyn LDC. And if Saturday Rains, they’ll try for Sunday.
