On a recent shopping trip, I found the Casabella Microfiber Glass Cleaner in the most unusual of places. My local Fred Meyer store had these on display in their curtain section! Had I not been looking for curtains, I never would have run across this great cleaning tool, because I would not have thought to look for a window cleaner in this section of their store.
The Casabella Microfiber Glass Cleaner is a great idea! It combines the cleaning power of a thick, white microfiber cloth with a handle and a squeegee. And best of all, the tool retailed for only $9.99, a great price. This looks like a miniature mop for windows and mirrors. There is a handle that has a triangular shaped head attached, and this head has a lot of bumps on the surface, which securely hold the microfiber cloth.
The unit also has a rubber squeegee, which allows you to remove excess water from your windows, and helps leave them with a streak free shine. This is a comfortable tool to hold, and as I move it up and down along the surface I am cleaning, the head pivots, allowing the microfiber pad to remain flat on the window or mirror. The cloth is thick enough that it holds a fair amount of water, and you don’t need to use any window cleaning chemicals with this gadget, plain water will work.
We have soft water, I suppose if your water is very hard you might have a different experience, but you could always use a spray window cleaner in place of the water, your choice. Either way, the microfiber cloth really adheres to the windows, and it takes a little bit of pressure on my part, but the cloth really does a good job of cleaning finger prints and other markings off of windows. I like the triangular shape of the pad, because this really allows the user to get into the corners of windows. Here more pressure is needed to assure a thorough cleaning, but the longer handle really helps reach the tops of windows and mirrors.
The tool is nearly 17 inches in length, and the cleaning pad measures 7 1/4″ by 8″. There is a loop at the end of the Casabella Microfiber Glass Cleaner that allows you to hang it up, it fits perfectly in our broom closet. It’s slim enough that it takes up very little room.
The packaging states that it works with “Refill C1”, but I could not find any refills available at Fred Meyer. However, the microfiber pad is washable, simply pull it off and throw it in the washing machine. Be sure not to throw it into the dryer with other clothes that are being dried with a fabric softener sheet, because when those chemicals get on the surface of microfiber cloths, they ruin their cleaning ability and make windows very streaky, defeating the very purpose.
Overall, I give the Casabella Microfiber Glass Cleaner high marks for cleaning effectiveness, and the added squeegee is a great idea. It removes the water from the surface, and allows the window to dry very quickly, leaving no steaks behind.
