A large portion of the population in southwest Ohio is of German descent and they are not afraid to show it off. Every September, Oktoberfest Zinzinnati takes over downtown Cincinnati for a weekend full of brats, metts, pretzels, beer, Bavarian music, dancing and more. With a visitor count of 500,000 or more, it is the largest Oktoberfest celebration in North America.
The event officially takes place on September 18th and 19th, with Thursday the 16th being the Gemuetlichkeith Games and Friday the 17th being a “sneak peek” from noon until midnight on Fountain Square. The event will be taking place on 5th Street from Race Street to Broadway. Highlights of this year’s event include the 4th Annual Running of the Weiner Dogs on Friday at noon, Opening Ceremony-Keg Tapping Saturday at 11:30am and the World’s Largest Chicken Dance to be led by UFC superstar Rich Franklin at noon on Sunday.
Cost of admission to this event is free and parking is $4.00 at the Fountain Square Garage. Be sure to bring a healthy appetite to sample all of the flavor the event has to offer. Food vendors will be serving up brats, metts, potato pancakes, pretzels,goetta, kielbasa, cream puffs, strudel and more.
