Charice Pempengco has made her country proud once again. A Filipina born sensation, Charise rose to fame when she speared on YouTube. Charice guest-starred on Tuesday’s episode of Glee as a foreign exchange student named Sunshine Corazon. In this episode, her character challenged Rachel Berry, played by Lea Michelle, a diva-like glee club star.
In one scene, in a girls’ restroom, Rachel, who was actively recruiting glee club members, asks Sunshine to audition, stating that singing and swaying in the background is fun. However, no sooner had she turned her back when Sunshine started singing “Telephone.” The two then continued to sing the song on a duet, which is one of the most memorable scenes of the show. Since then, Rachel knew she has a competition and feels threatened, although not admittedly. The show would go on with scenes where Rachel, in desperation would try dirty tricks on Sunshine, to sabotage her chance of auditioning. However, feeling a little guilty, although still intimidated, Rachel reluctantly advised Sunshine to go to the auditorium for the actual audition.
Sunshine’s performance during the audition was the highlight of the show. She belted out the song “Listen” from the movie “Dream Girls.” She wowed everyone and became the newest member of the glee club. Unfortunately, in the end, a rival group found her and offered her and her mom a condo and green card. Sunshine decided to leave the school citing that if she stays, Rachel will make her life a living hell.
It is not sure yet what the future will hold, whether Charice will be a regular cast member of Glee, but rumor has it that she may appear as a guest again. One thing is for sure though, that her shine will continue to shine. This is just the latest of her accomplishments that she can add to her resume. At the age of 18, she is a superstar in her own right. After all, Oprah had dubbed Charice Pempengco as the “most talented girl in the world.” To her credit and support from David Foster, her album, which debuted in May 11, 2010, was also a hit sensation.
Thanking her fans and the cast members, Charice twitted on her Twitter page, “Thanks to all the people who watched Glee. Thanks to Ryan Murphy & Brad for the trust. Thank you to all the cast. :)”
