I love pizza, but I hate paying the price for pizza. As one of those people who actually prefers frozen pizza to restaurant or homemade pizza (I just had a 3-cheese Pizza Pocket, as a matter of fact) I like to find fun and easy ways to bring the frozen pizza aspect into my home so I don’t have to pay the costs. As a result, I’ve found 3 quick and easy ways to make my own pizzas at home with items I already have, no pizza crust required. Find out how I enjoy pizza at home without the pizza costs.
You can make your own pizza pockets at home with your sandwich maker. Simply butter one side of 2 slices of bread, sprinkle on the buttered sides some garlic and parsley, and put spaghetti sauce on the insides of both pieces of bread. Add in your pepperoni or ham pieces, olives, onion, peppers, what have you and layer in some cheese. Sprinkle in Parmesan cheese (I like to sprinkle Parmesan cheese on the outside of the bread on the buttered part for crispiness) and put the pieces of bread together in the sandwich maker and you have a pizza pocket at home in the amount of time it takes to cook a store bought one! Yummy- and cheap!
You can also layer spaghetti sauce on bagels (large or small) and add your toppings and bake in the oven at 450 until done. A great idea to make individual pizza bagels that taste just like the bagel bites from the store, only much cheaper!
My favorite is making pizzas out of English muffins. My grandma would make them this way when I was a kid, and simply spread spaghetti sauce and toppings on the muffins and baked for a few minutes in the oven at 450 until the cheese melted. The results were always great, crispy crusts with a unique flavor for a pizza. They’re great and cheap.
I always add a little white or brown sugar to my spaghetti sauce to give it more of a tangy flavor, and use shredded cheese instead of sliced cheese to make my pizzas as it melts more evenly. For the best pizzas, I like mozzarella and cheddar cheese mixed together, but any cheese will do. All three of these pizza ideas don’t require you to make a crust, and make creating pizza at home a fun, cheap and easy experience! Enjoy!
