What is going on with the Bears? There are a number of surprising things that have happened, considering they were a 4-3 team just five weeks ago. They really benefited from a bye-week.
A post has been made at the Chicago Bears’ website titled “Award is nice, but Peppers focusing on team goals.”
Julius Peppers was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month. The Bears have gone 4-0 in the month of November, and a large part of that record belongs to the Bears’ defense. Peppers has worked as hard as anyone, and you can never forget Brian Urlacher. I liked what Peppers has said about the situation. He said that individual awards are nice, but that, as he was once told, he wants to be known as a “Super-Bowler” not a “Pro-bowler.”
Another issue with the Bears concerns injuries. Outside of Pisa Tinoisamoa, the Bears have no injuries, and Tinoisamoa’s injury was mild. However, the Lions have many injuries, and that could well have a “Bearing” on this week’s coming game.
Jay Cutler was nominated as FedEx Offensive Player of the Week. This was a result of throwing four touchdown passes and running for key gains. Cutler threw the credit to the offensive line that has been growing each week.
The Bears have been continuing to work, via Mike Martz, on the run. They have been working on a balanced attack, changed from an almost exclusive passing attack.
This is as happy as I have been all year, as far as the Bears go. They seem to be making strides in all areas, and they seem to be thinking and playing as a team. Cutler and Peppers are saying the right things. Lovie Smith is saying and doing the right things.
At the beginning of the season, the Chicago Bears were not expected to play a role in the NFL of any importance. Green Bay was expected to win the division and, if not them, Minnesota. And yet here the Bears are in first place by a game. It seems, with the remaining schedules, the Packers are going to have a difficult time winning the NFC North. Even if they pull that off, the Bears would have the face-to-face edge, at least at this point.
I’m a Bears fan until the very end, or until they are eliminated statistically.
