Before Hollywood, there was Chicago. While California weather beats a Chicago winter and “Hollywood” has a better ring to it than a city named after stinky onions, periodically television shows and movies still use the city as their stage. Here are the current television and film projects taking place this fall, including casting call information for the upcoming Warner Bros. film Contagion and tv’s The Marriage Ref.
Fox’s New Television Show: Ride Along
Those sirens you hear wailing throughout the city may be heading directly to your apartment, condo, or home, or to be more precise, to your television. According to the Chicago Film Office, Fox is currently filming Ride Along, a television series starring Jennifer Beals. A crime drama with a twist, the show allows viewers an all-access pass to ride along with Chicago police officers while getting the inside dirt on (fictional, of course) crime and corruption in the city.
While the show was working on its fifth episode, Governor Pat Quinn dropped by for a press appearance. I guess politicians get a little star-struck too.
Warner Bros./Steven Soderbergh Film: Contagion on Location in Chicago
While the city’s lights make stars difficult to see in Chicago, Steven Soderbergh will supply Chicago with quite a few this October. Contagion, a Warner Bros. film, directed by Soderbergh, is set to begin filming in Chicago on October 19th and will continue until December 17th according to the Chicago Film Office.
When the CDC hires an international team of doctors to prevent the global spread of a killer virus, it brings together a cast of Hollywood’s elite: Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, and Kate Winslet headline the cast.
Scheduled for release October 2011, reelzchannel.com reports initial plans for Contagion to be filmed in 3-D have been scrapped due to technical issues, but it may still be converted later. The action, sci-fi, thriller, from Bourne Ultimatum screenwriter Scott Z. Burns, is also scheduled to film in Japan, Switzerland, and Dubai, as well as other locations worldwide.

The Marriage Ref: Chicago Casting Call
Created by Jerry Seinfeld, The Marriage Ref invites a celebrity panel to counsel marriages. If your marriage isn’t funny enough, here’s your chance to add a little humor. The show is looking for married couples with issues overdue for some counseling and advice.
If you’re outgoing and opinionated and require celebrity therapy, you’re invited to share what drives you buggy about your husband/wife with the show’s casting team. Interested couples are asked to provide ONLY an email address to Casting@TheMarriageRef.TV for further instructions. Need some inspiration, check out episodes of The Marriage Ref for a few laughs before contacting.
I guess spotting celebrities around Chicago this fall will be a little easier. I’ll certainly be on the lookout for Matt Damon and Jude Law when out on the town. Visit the Chicago Film Office online to stay current with what television and film projects will be taking place in the city.
