Small decorative accent tables make a great addition to a kid’s bedroom. This fire engine embellished accent table project is perfect for the little man in your life!
For this project, you will need (per accent table):
– One small unfinished wooden accent table or refurbished wooden accent table free of any paints and/or stains
– Fire truck wooden cutouts (available at craft supply shops)
– Several sheets of medium and/or fine grit sandpaper
– Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Banner Red
– Acrylic paint in coordinating colors
– Artist’s paintbrush
– Epoxy glue
– Newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth
Choose a work area for this project that is well ventilated. Cover the space with pieces of old newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth. Sand down the exterior of the table using sheets of medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe down the piece with a tack cloth or other type of soft cloth to remove any grit created during sanding.
Prime the entire table using a layer of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once dry, paint the table using three to five layers of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Banner Red. Allow the paint to dry completely.
Carefully sand the unfinished wooden fire engine cutout with the same sheet of medium and/or fine grit sandpaper. Again, wipe down the wood using a soft cloth. Prime both sides of the cutout using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once dry, paint details onto the fire engine cutout using acrylic paint and an artist’s paintbrush. (Or, if you prefer, use acrylic paint pens instead to decorate the fire engine piece.)
Once the acrylic paint has dried, adhere the cutouts to he table with a bit of epoxy glue. Cure completely before using the table.
TIP: Other variations of this project can be completed. For a more feminine appeal, consider painting pink fire trucks instead of red. If your local craft supply store has other types of fireman themed cutouts, consider using those as well in the same fashion.
REFURBISH TIP: If you are looking to turn an existing table into this fun themed project, there are a few extra steps you should take. Remove any paints and/or stains from the accent table with paint thinner or stripper according to manufacturer directs. Make sure any hardware on the table is removed prior to starting. Proceed with the project, as directed.
